Today is the last day for A Bowl of Good at the Kate’s location. I like to think that Katrina and her business are now going into the chrysalis phase. We will be sending out updates letting you know where you can obtain some of her excellent products. Look for her during the month of October in the Harrisonburg Farmers Market (http://www.downtownharrisonburg.org/harrisonburg_farmers_market.php, currently located in the parking lot across from the Daily News Record.
Saturday, September 30, 2006 A Bowl of Good will be front and center at the Harrisonburg International Festival
(http://www.harrisonburg-international-festival.org/).
This event is incredibly fun for the food, culture, and activities for the kids. Last year there were more than 5,000 people and Katrina sold out. Estimates are running higher for this year.
We hope to see you there!
Don’t forget we are open for five more days. We will be serving our normal menu Monday through Friday of this week (September 25-29). Come on in and enjoy a few more “Bowls of Good” before we move to hiatus mode.
A great big thank you to all of you who came in and surprised me for my birthday. I really was surprised and got a bit choked up by the show of support. I feel blessed all around–life is good. A special thanks to my husband who masterminded the surprise, to Rachel who made a most beautiful cake (perhaps the next A Bowl of Good could have a cake making division–up for it, Rachel??) and my in-laws who have been the best volunteer staff anyone could ever have.
I also want to draw attention to my paid staff this week. They are the best, and this change has been hard on them too. None of us have a definite next step yet, so keep us all in your prayers. If any of you know of employment opportunities for Marielys, Beth, Corrie, Laura or Ona please talk to one of them or to me, so that I can pass it on to them. If you have a chance this week, thank them for their part in bringing you “healthy, hearty food with an international zing.”
Just to let you know, wonderful ideas continue to flow regarding the future of A Bowl of Good. I will continue to keep you informed as things become clearer.
Again, thank you so much for the outpouring of affirmation I have heard over the last number of weeks.

Dear Friends,
As most of you already know, On September 29 I will be closing down A Bowl of Good, located inside of Kate’s Natural Products. I have been located there since February 2005, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time there making “healthy, hearty food with an international zing.â€
Unfortunately, the financial arrangement I had with Kate’s changed and I did not feel like my business could bear the burden of it, so I chose to move on. This change of direction has forced me to do lots of soul searching and trying to figure out my next step. While I love restaurant work, I have chosen AT THIS TIME, not to open my own location. I have young children (Luther, 9 and Eva, 7) and feel like my focus needs to be on them; the burden of opening my own establishment would most probably put a huge strain on our family life. This was a hard decision to come to, but one I feel at peace with.
I am, however, very open to starting up a café in the future, and will continue to be open to ideas and possibilities. I also will continue to explore ways that I might be able to make breads, soups, focaccias, cookies, etc available to anyone interested. Stay tuned. I will keep you abreast of any developments. Please visit our website as well – www.abowlofgood.com
We have got two weeks left at A Bowl of Good and we plan to have fun during those two weeks. In addition to our regular menu offerings, we are going to try and use up lots of our inventory, so we are going to be cookin’ up a storm. If you know you would like to order, then please call 435-2674 or e-mail your order to us at abowlofgood@gmail.com The following is our cooking schedule for this week:
Monday: Get all set up for the week, making our usual.
Tuesday: Salad Dressing. For those of you who are in love with our Greek Vinaigrette and/or our Poppy Seed Dressing, we are going to make up a ton, so you can take some home. We will try to have it available all this week.
Wednesday: Love that Focaccia? We are going to make up a bunch of ‘em on our 9-grain dough and freeze them. Take one or ten home for an easy, healthy pop-it-in-the-oven meal.
Choose from the following:
Sautéed Spinach and Garlic with Feta and Mozzarella
Roasted Red and Yellow Pepper, Fresh Basil and Mozzarella
Fresh Rosemary, Basil and Thyme with Mozzarella
Kids Special Pizza: Our homemade pizza sauce and Mozzarella and Parmesan
Thursday: Vietnamese Garden Rolls – Ona is great at these. She will be making them all day. Choose vegetarian or Chicken.
Friday: Cookie Day!!! We are going to make lots of cookie dough—buy them baked or take home a log of cookie dough, so that you can bake them in your own home. Yummm!
In addition to all the good stuff I have mentioned, I also have the following:
Dolmas– on sale—a can of 60 of them for $9.99.
Kitchen Gadgets –I will be discounting all my Chef’n products (Mini magnetic salt and peppershakers, Large Salt and Pepper Balls, Cool colored Spatulas, Avocado Slicers, peelers) These make fabulous Christmas gifts!!
Come on in, have lunch and check it all out!!!

A Bowl of Good will be moving on! We have been located within Kate’s Natural Food Products for the past year and a half and have grown by leaps and bounds. Unfortunately, the business arrangement changed in such a way that financially we could not bear.
The ‘ol expression goes that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. We choose to look forward and see this as an opportunity to explore how to present you the customers with a better setting, better product(s), and better service.
That is what we are doing now, and the energy that is flowing into this exploration right now is wonderful. Stay tuned!! We will keep you up to date.
