A Bowl of Good in the DNR

February 26th, 2009

Today’s DNR had this photo

and this article http://www.dnronline.com/news_details.php?AID=35839&CHID=2

about the Friendly City Food Co-op Feb Fest in the local section.  I guess it’s better late than never, but we were wondering if this excellent event was going to get any ink.  Rachael and Katrina was at the center of the party providing a selection of their salads on locally grown lettuce, and salsas and chips in their “Nacho-Falls” display.

A good time was had by all and we estimate over a 500 people were in attendance.  It was kind of neat to see a representation of so many demographics there.  We felt privileged to be a part of it.

We received a lot of nice feedback about whether to use the tagline, “Healthy, Hearty Food with an International Zing!” or “Globally Inspired, Local Goodness.”  Thanks!  We’re always open to your opinion.

We’re starting to get the tables ready for A Bowl of Good Café. We’re designing something that I think you all will really like! We’re hoping to demonstrate the “Globally Inspired, Local Goodness” theme by making tables using barnwood from our friends, the Sechrists, and then placing international, colorful tile in the center. The tile needs to be 10 cm. squared or about 3 2/3″ squared, and we need four that size per table. We have some cool tile from Guatemala and, thanks to our generous friends, Earlynn and Don, we have tile from Mexico and maybe Jerusalem.  We’d love to have some representation from other regions of the world like Asia and Africa. Anybody have some ideas? Ideally, we DO NOT want to buy something from Lowes. It would be best if it had a bit of a story behind it. The story of making the prototype alone has been so much fun and interesting that we’re going to take pictures of everyone who helped contribute to the project. We hope to then frame the photos and pictures to display somewhere in the cafe.

Tonight A Bowl of Good will be one of the caterers at the Feb Feast (http://www.friendlycityfoodcoop.com).  You really don’t want to miss this fun event and support for the coop – it’s free too!  You’ll probably want to come just to find out what Katrina’s take on a “Nacho-Fall” is going to be.

Which One is Better?

February 13th, 2009

Tomorrow we hope to see you at the Downtown Harrisonburg Farmers Market.  We will have more of Katrina’s latest, “Red, White, & Moo Chili.”  It features red beans, white beans, and excellent chunks of beef – a warm-your-belly, February, hearty meal.

On another note, WE NEED YOUR HELP!  From the inception of A Bowl of Good, we have used the tagline, “Healthy, Hearty Food with an International Zing!”  But we have been describing how our upcoming café as having food that is “Globally Inspired, Local Goodness.”

What do you think?

   1. Healthy, Hearty Food with an International Zing!; or

   2. Globally Inspired, Local Goodness

Which would be better?  Do you have a better recommendation?
