We want to rejoice with the 450 or more who made an effort to come out to the Haiti Fundraiser last Thursday night and throughout the day. What a fabulous time of community, sharing, caring and enjoying the delicious Haitian food served by the A Bowl of Good staff! You helped us raise more than $8,094 and some change. $700 of that money will be going to HELPS International and the Water Filters while the rest is going to and has been deposited to Mennonite Central Committee Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. We were honored to have Couer (Haitian/American) and his wife Laura among us; Laura left the next day (Friday) to help out as a nurse with MCC in Haiti.
There are so many to thank for their effort that I’m sure we will miss some but know that your efforts meant a
big contribution: our staff who volunteered all of their time; Artisans Hope, Deb King and The Common Good Marketplace staff; Mike Reno at the JMU print shop; The Oriental Market for supplying many ingredients; Grains of Sense, Tom Hamon; Portwood Gardens for lettuce; Tammy Sadonis for helping out with the chicken; and Dean, the Didots and the Bookers.
We are already planning on having a follow-up fundraiser next year on the anniversary of the earthquake. We figure that the need will continue.
